1x01: ENCOUNTER AT FARPOINT

>EPISODE INFORMATION
Original Air Date: 28 September 1987
Stardate: 41153.7
Written By: D.C. Fontana & Gene Roddenberry
Directed By: Corey Allen

>ABOUT
Embarking on their first mission to Farpoint Station, the new Enterprise D meets the super-being known as Q, who puts humanity on trial and condemns humans to be a grieviously savage race.

>TRIVIA

  • The old-style Red Alert sound is heard in this episode.
  • This is the only episode to one, have a teaser (however in television airings, there is a teaser), two, it's the only episode to have the end credits scroll up, while other episodes have the credits fading to the next one, and three is the only episode where the actors are only credited as their actor names eg. PATRICK STEWART instead of PATRICK STEWART as Captain Jean-Luc Picard. The reason for this was because the actors were billed as a movie length episode.
  • This episode marks DeForest Kelley's final appearance on Star Trek before his death on 11 June 1999.
  • Executive Producer Gene Roddenberry had originally planned for this episode to evolve around solving the mystery of Farpoint Station and to be a one hour episode. However, Parramount didn't agree with this and wanted a two hour episode and this is where Q came into the storyline.
  • Colm Meaney (Comm) wears a red uniform in this episode and is not the transporter chief and has no name. He will be a security guard in the Season 1 episode "Lonely Among Us" and will wear a gold uniform and will start off as transporter chief in the Season 2 debut "The Child".
  • The final scene is the only time Tasha is seen wearing a skirt style uniform.
>STARRING
  • Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean-Luc Picard
  • Jonathan Frakes as Commander William Riker
  • LeVar Burton as Lt. Geordi La Forge
