While Wesley takes a Starfleet test for entrance into the Academy, an investigation is conducted on board the Enterprise by two officers from the Inspector General's Office who believe there is something wrong with the Enterprise.

>TRIVIA

• While Remmick's conversation with Tasha Yar wasn't shown on scene, it was presumed to have happened because Picard said to Remmick that he had spoken to every member of the crew.
• Remmick references the events of "The Naked Now" to Worf, "The Battle" to Counselor Troi, "Justice" to Captain Picard, and "Where No One Has Gone Before" to Geordi.
• This episode is the only episode of TNG that is directed by Michael Vejar. Vejar later directed ST: Deep Space Nine, ST: Voyager & ST: Enterprise episodes.
• This episode lays the groundwork for the later Season 1 episode "Conspiracy". Remmick makes a return in that episode, as does Admiral Quinn.
• Wesley's repeat Starfleet exams, which Picard says he will take the next year happens in the Season 2 episode "Samaritan Snare", although the test itself was off-scene.
• John Putch (Mordock) later appears as another Benzite in the Season 2 episode "A Matter of Honor".
