- This is the first episode of TNG in which no stardate was specified. Further TNG episodes to have no stardate will be "First Contact", "Tapestry", "Liaisons" and "Sub Rosa".
- Although this episode aired before the next episode "Skin of Evil", this episode was filmed before the next episode and therefore was Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar's) final regular appearance on the show. Tasha is seen waving at Picard and Beverly as they are walking out of the cargo bay at the end of the episode.
- This is the only episode in TNG that is directed by Win Phelps.
