The Enterprise docks at a Starbase for repairs and upgrades to the ship. Soon after, the alien species the Bynars steal the Enterprise, while Picard and Riker enjoy some relaxation with a holographic woman designed to be real down to the touch.

- Minuet makes another appearance and this is in the Season 4 episode "Future Imperfect".
- Picard describes the Holodeck with references from previous episodes, telling Minuet that it "has given us woodlands" "Encounter at Farpoint", and ski slopes "Angel One", figures that fight "Code of Honor", and fictional characters with whom we can interact "The Big Goodbye".
- The computer voice in this episode is shared by Majel Barrett and an unidentified male voice. This voice had also been heard in the syndicated second part of "Encounter at Farpoint" announcing "Last time on Encounter at Farpoint" prior to the recap of the first part.
- Marina Sirtis (Counselor Troi) does not appear in this episode.
