While exploring Data's homeworld, Omicron Theta, the Enterprise crew finds and assembles the parts to Data's twin brother, Lore, who plans to destroy the crew.

- Jonathan Frakes (Riker) makes a mistake when he accidentally drops a number in the Stardate when he says "Stardate 4124.4.
- Data's quarters are seen for the first time in this episode. The design changes significently over TNG's run.
- This was the final episode of Star Trek to be written by Gene Roddenberry before his death on October 24, 1991.
- This episode marks the first appearance of Lore. Lore will appear in later in the Season 4 episode "Brothers", the Season 6 and Season 7 episodes "Descent, Part I & II".
