  • Although not real, this episode marks the first appearance of the Enterprise's sister ship, the USS Yamato. The USS Yamato later re-appears in the Season 2 episode "Contagion" but self-destructs.
  • This is the final time in TNG in which the auto-destruct sequence is set on the Enterprise.
  • With no new sets, this episode is a bottle show.
  • This episode marks the first appearance of the new Red Alert lights which entirely flash on and off and they will be used for the rest of the show's run.
  • This is the only episode where Picard says "come in" when the doorbell rings. In all other episodes, he says "come".
  • This is the first episode episode of TNG that is directed by Winrich Kolbe.
