After the crew of the USS Lantree mysteriously die of "old age", Doctor Pulaski puts her life on the line and tries to prove that the children of Darwin Station are not the carriers of the disease that killed the USS Lantree crew, however, they are which results in Pulaski falling victim to the disease.

- Paul Lynch previously directed the first season episodes "The Naked Now" and "11001001".
- Patricia Smith (Dr Kingsley) and Diana Muldaur (Doctor Pulaski) were very exhausted as the result of the heavy make up in this episode. As a result, the two actresses said they will never do another season of Science Fiction shows again.
- This episode marks the first time Miles O'Brien is referred to as the Transporter Chief and the first time he is named "O'Brien" and is also the first time his name is not credited in the closing credits.
